Repetition and "overlearning" opportunities are integral
Students work through a series of graded typed lessons based on story format, interspersed with comprehension, grammar and spelling rules exercises.
Touch-typing for tactile memory
Touch-typed patterns of finger-movements support memory
Words are seen and heard simultaneously, touch-typed and repeated
Lessons are read aloud; voice is recorded & played back
Emphasis in the IDL programme is on independent learning. Students feel in control of their learning and progress without pressure or stress. We support and encourage our students as they work through lessons at a comfortable rate.
THE BENEFITS
After 26 hours on the programme, a progress check will show improvements in both reading and spelling . (Studies have shown average improvement as 10 months in reading and 11 months in spelling after only 26 hours on the IDL programme.)
Many students make much more rapid progress - in some cases improving their reading or spelling by as much as 2 years after 26 hours on IDL
